'Yayoi Kusama 'Life is the Heart of a Rainbow''
Throughout the journey of making this last installation ,I have been inspired by 4 main artists
Yayoi Kusama , Ernesto Neto and Maria Nopumunceno .
Their words and character of their work made me create a way to view my work as a playful evolving body , that cherishes freedom .Expressing it’s presence through colour, shape and sound .
Yayoi Kusama said in one of her interviews ‘’ The universe is full of nothing ,ever expanding and ever destroying itself ,just like a drop that falls in water ‘’ I completely disappear in the universe .’’I seek the energy of life and I turn it into art’’.
Not only her joyful dotted installation are inspiring my own practice ,but her simplest words as well. I have incorporated sound into my work to create this other layer of connection between the audience and the artwork ,where a more intimate connection brings form and unleashes a different side of the work that could not be seen just by looking at the artwork . The poems are complementing the installation leading me to explore a new medium as well as bringing this new layer of relaxation and curiosity .
Maria Nepomuceno’s installation ‘’Tempo para Respirar’’ inspired me to look more into the essence of material and the action of touch , it’s sensory perception of hand crafted sculptural objects. It made me realise the importance of each textile material ,and the importance of the time spent to create those pieces by hand ,which promotes mindfulness ,relaxation and creativity. Her work made me look more into appreciating more the time and energy that it takes on working with fabric and crochet and give up on the concept of making art as quickly as possible ,now looking for quality rather than quantity of art.
Ernesto Neto first installation that I encountered was ‘’’ , it’s conceptual installations ,gave me a new direction in the way I saw art and it’s purpose. His works opened up a new concept to me ,the concept of exploration through touch ,smelling and hearing which creates an universal feeling for it’s audience .I started making small interactive and sensory works that are part of my latest installation ,which promotes relaxation with an emphasis on colour used as a primary direction to interact with our child self . feeling of refound
